It is evident that times have changed. Years ago you used to have to submit your resume in person when you went to apply for a job.
Looking for a job is very frustrating. There are numerous helpful hints you can try. When you are searching for a job choose look at different jobs that appeal to you. As you are looking at their postings check out their keywords and the language which they are using. You will want to compare them to your resume. If you don’t have some of these keywords you may want to see where you could add them. This is if you have the specified skills, experience, and/or knowledge.
Make sure that you customize your resumes for the job. You don’t want to submit generic resumes and cover letters. As you are applying and submitting your resume if they are requiring a cover letter then write up a short one. In your cover letter you will want to express to the prospective employer why you’d like to join their company and why you are an excellent candidate for the job.
Another excellent thing to do is to attend job fairs. Job fairs give you the opportunity to meet face to face with recruiters and employers. You will want to make sure that when you do meet with these individuals that you get their names. This will make it easier for you to email or call them when you do a follow up. If you didn’t get their name you could call the company and ask for their name or even have them put you through to them.
You could also ask them, “What is the best way to follow up with you?” This is important and it will show a potential employer that you are interested. You may have some employers tell you to follow up on a weekly basis. There are others that will tell you different times. You need to figure out which is the best way so that you are staying polite but you are also being persistent.
As you are trying to find a job don’t become discouraged. There are numerous tips to helping you with your resume. Keep your resume updated and make sure that it is geared towards the position that you are applying for.
