Getting everyone on board for any team concept is not always easy. There are a ton of studies and information to apply to team concepts and motivation but they are all too broad. When we focus on one simple strategy POT (Progress, Ownership and Transparency) we can acquire a Highly effective team.

Focus on Progress

Often we are told we are making progress but it is hard to see. This is a common mistake when working in teams. In order to keep morale up it is better to focus on progress for the week not months or years. People will have a better outlook and not forget the goal or progress because they get a feeling of accomplishment when it is kept small. Focusing on today is much better and easier to focus on than having an overload and can cause a loss of morale when many are over stressed.

When trying to make progress with a group large or small, it is best to make 30 minute meeting per day only focusing on small tasks and accomplishments for the day or week. This will help set morale and set obtainable goals without overloading the group as a whole.

Taking Ownership

Ownership in a team is the getting a sense of belonging. We will make more progress when all team members feel like a part of the group. This can be accomplished by openly discussing problems at the meetings and giving individuals in the team an opportunity to contribute. Making the problem known to the group gives them a sense of ownership of the problem and the solution to the matter. Giving credit where and when it is due is going to give the individual the right morale which will reflect amongst the group as a whole.

A major fault within a team is to hold on and debate problems too long. If it can be shared and a solution implemented quickly it can be accomplished and taken care of without a festering. If the solution is not the right solution you can always move onto a new solution.

Have Transparency

Transparency in a group is key to making progress. When it is discussed as a group it is taken seriously rather than on social sites where it can be easily dismissed. When discussed in a group it is known to all participants involved and gives them ownership and a sense of belonging to the progress that is, will or has been made. This will increase their participation of a resolution or progress in the tasks at hand.
