Being in a leadership position is a tough place to be. Not only is it lonely on top, but there is always pressure on you to be able to adequately provide for your team. Leaders must be courageous in many things. In order to find success, a leader must be courageous in their decision-making skills so that they aren’t afraid to fail. They must work proactively to work with their environment instead of always reacting to changes their environment may bring. Leaders seek out information to make the best decision possible, but also make that tough decision that needs to be made without hesitation.

Leaders must communicate with the members of their team and other leaders within their field to generate the best results. Rather than just talking or sending e-mails, leaders seek out the best way to communicate with each person so that the most accurate information can transfer every single time. Leaders also communicate through the utilization of resources so that people can study, become better, and ultimately more effective at what they do.

Being a leader means you’re putting the team first, not you. The best leaders work hard to develop their teams so that they can all be able to taste success. The ultimate compliment as a leader would be to have one of their team be able to take over as a leader through the development they received while working on that team. They drive people to success not through the use of fear, but through the promise of success.
Trait #4: Collaboration
Being a leader used to mean having to take on all of the responsibilities of any given situation on their own. With collaboration, there is a shared responsibility amongst the entire team. This shared responsibility also brings about a collaboration of knowledge, creativity, and experiences to create a cohesive unit that can provide consistent end results.
Trait #5: Trust
If you don’t have the trust of your people, then you aren’t really a leader. It’s true that you may hold a leadership position, but to be a leader, people must be following you. People do not follow leaders that they do not trust. The best way to develop that trust is to let your yes always be yes and your no always be no. Be consistent in what you say, be willing to admit a mistake if you make one, and always be honest in how you conduct business. The more you can consistently do that, the more people will be willing to follow you.
