Bobby Knight, also known as Bob Knight, is a seventy-three year old American man who used to be a basketball coach of Indiana University basketball which is one of the champions in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). He was born in October 25, 1940. He was one of the most amusing and popular coaches. Bobby Knight was honored by several awards during his term of service. He was recognized as the National coach of the Year for four years and won eight times as one of the Big Ten Coach of the Year.
The Memory of Knight
Unfortunately, something happened with Knight and that situation affected his career. Since he had problems with his behavior; he got himself fired from his job and lost his career in the year 2000 because of having an argument with a freshman student named Kent Harvey. After the incident, he delivered a motivational speech in Dunn Meadow to the students of Indiana University and said his farewell. He was in front of a big crowd estimated with six thousand in number. His speech would like to address those students to cheer up and disregard the issue but eventually his dismissal of being a coach will not be rejected.
“Let the kid become a student & allow him to get on with his life,” he said in the beginning. Knight cleared and let people understand that his dismissal was none of the responsibilities of the student whom he had an argument with. The crowd then raised signs in help for Knight. “This university is great” he complimented. He told the crowd consistency of the goodness of the University he was once part of.
The Advice and Inspiration of Knight
Knight also had something to say to his former players. He insisted that students should pursue supporting and protecting their team with their new coach and does their best. He emphasized how changes in people change situations for both good and bad. He begged to them not to dampen or decrease the enthusiasm of the student group towards basketball and never lose their interest in it. Knight supposed if ever the people would like to remember him and said that he will be very proud of them if they do.
After Knight delivered his motivational speech, the crowd, especially the students, gave him a big round of applause as he approaches his wife crying and wiped her tears with a tissue right after kissing her. He even made the crowd laugh by saying “”I hope that’s not inappropriate physical contact.”
“A very gracious speech.” a spokesman praised. The IU vice president Christopher Simpson also spoke and said that the students are always special to him and they will remain in that way in his eyes and that he was very glad to see Knight tonight. Moreover, several students of Indiana University praised Bobby Knight for his great service and leadership towards his team. Knights players decided to transfer school after knight’s dismissal. However, it did not happen and still remained after a new coach was recruited, Mike Davis, by Clarence Doninger.
