ESTJs are grounded in reality more than most other personality types. They loved to work in conventional environments where facts matter. They also love having a routine to follow that has rules in place for structure and quality standards. The ESTJ knows what is expected of them and so that’s how they perform. They also have no problem keeping others in line with expectations and assigning tasks to people when no other person wants to assume the mantle of leadership.
Because of this love of structure and desire to avoid conjecture, here are some of the top ESTJ careers to avoid.
1. Graphic Design.
Although the ESTJ personality doesn’t mind being creative, they don’t necessarily enjoy the type of environment where the creative arts are developed. You’ll find the ESTJ working on their house or repairing items for fun because it improves the structure of the environment. To design something from scratch out of the chaos becomes problematic.
ESTJs love the instant gratification of work that provides immediate results. When coding or doing other forms of computer programming, it can take several days or weeks to see the results of their work come to fruition. For this reason, the ESTJ will become frustrated, slowly but surely, and ultimately begin focusing on jobs that do provide the immediate gratification they want.
3. Data Entry.
There is immediate gratification in entering data, but there is also social isolation with this type of job. ESTJs prefer an environment where they can be involved in many institutions so they can use their social skills to network. They love to connect to others and use their experiences to lead others, something that repetitive tasks typically don’t allow.
4. Preschool Teacher.
If you put an ESTJ into an unstructured environment, they will begin to organize it right away. Having a structured routine to follow is a positive component in this career, but the randomness of the 3-4 year old mind will eventually cause the ESTJ to seek out other career opportunities in a short period of time.
The ESTJ personality type loves hierarchy, wants to lead, and expects obedience. Because of these traits, the career options above are the best ones to avoid.
