Ethics and virtue are mainly referred to the moral principles and positive character attributes of the people in the workplace. Those employees who have these values are not more likely to steal, even small pens in the offices. Despite the small amount of objects stolen, they know that it is still a form of stealing. Examples of virtue ethics in the workplace are respect, courtesy and integrity.
According to the famous philosopher and author named Albert Camus, a man who has no ethics is like a living wild beast freed into this world. Likewise, there is a need to closely look at the damages created by unethical companies into the lives of people. CEO’s, presidents, managers and owners must make it a priority for their companies to shine its light among employees. In effect, the businesses will continue to strive for integrity and virtue.
Examples of Virtue Ethics in the Workplace
Being trustworthy results for your co-workers and boss to depend and rely on you. As for your boss, he or she knows that you are showing up at the soonest possible time and is ready in committing and doing your job.
And since you are being trusted, the team players are not worrying if you are a slacker. This is due to the reason that they know that your priority is the end results of the project. You have already established your reputation as a direct and honest employee.
Respect is the most important virtue ethics in getting along co-workers. When respect is tempered by acceptance in the differences of others and tolerance, you proved to be a valuable employee and co-worker.
Apart from it, you are after considering the feelings and emotions of other people. The work relationships are not even taken for granted. You also do not like to gossip or talk behind the backs of other people. If there is anything that you want to open up, you just say it directly to the face of the person.
The optimum reason for getting special assignments is your ability of being responsible. Other bosses feel that they are babysitters. They need to check on and follow up even the tiniest detail in the task that is assigned.
However, this may not be the case for you as the boss depends and trusts you for taking the duties seriously. Your boss also understands that if there is any issue, you are going to confront her out. She also believes that the assignment is to be delivered before deadline, or in due date.
4. Caring and Compassion
Many of the co-workers are coming to you in seeking out for help. This is because they know that you truly care and you demonstrate compassion because of their problems. A neighbor involved in doing good work, your co-workers are aware of contributing to a harmonious and pleasant work environment. You are not interested in polluting the workplace with hostility, displays involving negative energy and anger. Apart from it, you also value for thoughtfulness by means of thinking before speaking!
