Creating A Successful Interview Process
Whether you’re interviewing for your first job or your interviewing for a job after completing your college degree remain calm. There are a few tips that will help you have a successful job interview.
The word “interview” brings about feelings of anxiety and fear; however, it doesn’t have to be this way. They are ways in which you can ease your anxiety prior to having an interview. Being overly prepared for your interview will make you feel more comfortable which will allow the interviewer to see your confidence.
Prior to going to an interview you should understand the importance of an interview. Interviews are conducted as a means for interviewees and potential future employees to showcase their job experience, education, abilities, talents, and personality. Although this should come with little effort, successful interviewing is a skill that only a few people naturally possess. If you already know interviews make you anxious or nervous you should allocate more time toward your preparation process.
After receiving a call back from a business or company you applied for and scheduling an interview you are now ready to officially prepare yourself for the interview. You should have multiple copies of your resume just in case you are interviewed by more than one person. References should be attached and depending on the position your applying for you may bring in various work samples.
You can further prepare yourself by researching the company and become knowledgeable about the company’s mission and goals.
Afterward you should rehearse your answers to the basis interview questions. How will you be an asset to this company? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Why should the company hire you? You should have thought about questions you would like to ask and written them down so that you would not forget them during the actual interview. Prepare yourself for surprises as it demonstrates your ability to work under pressure!
Now that you have prepared yourself to the best of your ability you are ready for your interview. When you walk into your interview you should firmly shake hands with your interviewer and proceed after them. You should be dressed professionally and maintain good posture throughout your entire interview. Try to remember your interviewers name and it is best to address them accordingly. You should avoid bad habits such as tapping, biting your fingers, or running your fingers through your hair.
You should remind yourself that interviews are part of the process and it is essential that you are yourself and remain confident. Once the interview is finished ask when you can expect a decision and go home and follow-up with a thank you letter. Now that you have been walked through the entire interview process, you are definitely prepared for a successful job interview.
