INFJ is one of the sixteen personality types as classified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI. INFJ is an acronym for introversion, intuition, feeling and judging.
INFJ functions are unique in a way and they are very rare. A person possessing the INFJ personality would be extremely diplomatic, shall have high moral values and would be a great judge of character and situation at the same time. It is this combination of attributes that makes them rare. Across the world, a tiny one percent of population is estimated to possess the INFJ personality. It is not surprising as true diplomats, statesmen and noble accomplishers are quite rare, in every walk of life.
Some famous people who had this personality are Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Jimmy Carter and Goethe. People with INFJ personality become great advocates, diplomats, even politicians and public figures in a broad range of careers. Such people can take up social or civil causes, champion human rights or initiate an idea that can galvanize public opinion.
INFJ personality has a few unique characteristics but those attributes are not entirely rare. It is the combination of attributes that makes them truly special. For instance, people who are creative are often unconvincing. They keep procrastinating and they also doubt their ideas and selves. But people with this personality are creative and convincing at the same time. They truly believe in their ideas and they stand up to the ideals and morals set by them or by other idealists. They would always strive to accomplish what they have set out for but not by convoluted ways. They wouldn’t set one foot wrong.
Such people are driven. They are passionate and sensitive at the same time. Their understanding of the real world, their sensitivity towards others and their affinity for perfection make them role models. People often aspire to become those that possess and display INFJ personality traits. While being very articulate with their thoughts and expressively outgoing with their agendas or what they believe in, they are still very private and don’t really talk about the challenges or the inner conflicts that they may be trying to overcome or deal with.
Positive INFJ Characteristics
One of the most noticeable and easily relatable INFJ characteristics is imagination. Such people have wonderful imagination but it is not beyond the realm of common understanding. Their imagination may be utopian, their aspiration may be ideal and even the accomplishment they are gearing up for might be too steep a task but the interpretation they would have or the manner in which they would present that imagination will be simple enough for others to relate to. Being creative is relatively easy but articulating that creativity so others can relate to it can be a daunting challenge. That is one thing such people excel at.
Creative people are not always great judges. Actually, creative or imaginative people don’t make for very wise judges. Judgment is left for those who are rational and would peg rationale over everything else. INFJ personalities can quaintly manage to balance intuition and judgment. They can somehow see through situations to have an insightful understanding and they can also look at the facts at the same time and come up with an inference. Their inference is seldom wrong or disputed and that is why they make excellent advisors or counselors. Most advisors to governments and world leaders are said to have an INFJ personality or at least some INFJ characteristics.
Negative INFJ Characteristics
INFJ personality is strong willed, such people are determined and they would follow through their actions to the logical end or to any end that is destined, as it would appear. This level of intent or degree of intensity may not always work in favor of an individual. They are so headstrong that it can become a borderline case of arrogance. They can become inflexible. Their judgment, insight and predicament might compel them to feel that only what they know or think is right and others who are of a contrarian or even a slightly different opinion are wrong.
Owing to their private nature or attempt to keep things within themselves, such people don’t manage to make many friends. They are effectively loners and do spend a lot of time of their life without anyone by their side. They may even struggle to confide something in people they love and dearly trust.
The craving for perfection often works against people with such a personality. Their ideal pursuits may lead them on a path where they would accomplish nothing. It is rare but it is a possibility. In every sphere of life today, perfection is elusive and often a futile pursuit.
The combination of various INFJ functions and characteristics make such people vulnerable to burnouts. They may never get the time to rejuvenate which is never desirable and actually unhealthy to a great extent.
