INFP is an abbreviation that means I-introversion, N-iNtuition, F-Feeling and P-Perception. This is one of the 16 identified personality types in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator publication or also known as MBTI. According to their study, INFPs are rare types which accounts to 4 to 5% of population.
Understanding the Traits of an INFP
Introversion refers to the individuals traits of being reserved and quite. They commonly interact with their close few friends than with a large circle of colleague and expend energy from social situations that is fueled by the energy of a typical extravert. Intuition means refers to the ability to sense. They are much abstract that being concrete which focuses attention to a big picture than details and possibilities of the future than immediate or direct realities. Feeling refers to their ability to think. They value much of the personal consideration than criteria objective. In decision making, they tend to give weights on the social implication than logic. Perception or reference to judgement means the individual withholds their judgment then delay decisions that are important, which also prefers to that they keep options open.
Primary Focus of an INFP
Generally, they focus mainly on values and devoted time and lives in chasing the ideal; they also draw together people with common purpose. INFP’s are very creative that seek new possibilities and ideas. They silently push thing that is very significant to them and rarely giving up. They also possess gentleness and sense of humor that is very delightful, but they are difficult to be overlooked and get to know better by others.
People with INFP personality are very reluctant or hesitant to lead, it doesn’t mean that they can’t, but they just simply don’t want to. They are relatively a supportive follower that encourages and gives confidence to their leaders in facing the quest.
When there are circumstances that they find themselves to the positions of leaders or leadership, they possess the style of creating an encouraging and accepting environment for their people to experiment and know themselves more. They always empathize to the feelings of their follower, and then seek building up consensus around a common or shared goal which arrives in open communication strategy. They are the WE leaders, which does not want to entail much channel, facilitate and support to the groups will.
Since INFP’s does not like conflicts, they finds it trouble or difficult once an unavoidable disagreement with a set of troublemakers, or sometimes the need to talk or lay down laws for best interest of everyone on their team. Since leader or leadership is considered as the criticisms fair game, they usually take it hard. Following all the regulations and rules are not they forte but not to the point of being rebellious. They rather wait for the situation to work on their own, they are not hands on leader since they want their people to learn and achieve goals independently.
They are much of the facilitator than director, always praises and encouraging people but never critique or criticize. A common area for their improvement and not as limitations, they can be able to learn or pick this up with time of experience and practice but surely there will be pain and stress that will fill in.
