ISFJ on the Meyers-Briggs Type indicator refers to Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging. These are people who are going to be categorized by their warmth, but they are naturally also going to be considerably more complicated than that.
The gender differences between ISFJ women and ISFJ men are not substantial. You will find that the defining traits of this particular personality type generally do not differentiate from one another to any significant degree. However, given that this is one of the most common personality types in the world, there are naturally going to be some differences between the genders.
General ISFJ Traits
Obviously, we deal in things through one or several of our five senses. Someone who identifies as an ISFJ is going to put considerable, concrete value on the perceptions they created through their five senses. This is in reference to their primary mode of being alive, which is internal. Their external dealings are secondary, and this can be in the form of dealing with things as the individual’s personal value system will naturally respond to them.
Both ISFJ women and ISFJ men are people who generally strive for harmony in all given situations. They will endeavor to see the best in people and in all situations. They will work to remain aware of the feelings of those around them at all times, and they will constantly work to maintain a cooperative atmosphere amongst those they live and work with. Their consideration tends to make them extremely desirable company.
An ISFJ is also going to be someone who intensely values the power of memory, which is something that is also tied to their fierce loyalty to their value systems. They are frequently known to be people who have a fantastic capacity for memories that are tied in some way to the things they believe to be true about the world around them. It is not unreasonable for someone who identifies as an ISFJ to remember very small, particulars details about a person or event. If this person or event is tied into the ISFJ male or ISFJ female somehow, this memory can be stored for years and years to come.
ISFJs are also fantastic listeners. This ties into their desire to do the best job possible, regardless of the tasks they have been assigned. It also ties into their ability to be exceptionally well-organized.
However, an ISFJ can also be someone who does not value their own personal needs, as much as they might value the needs of those around them. They can actually have a difficulty in expressing their desire for what they want to the point of becoming highly frustrated. This trait can also make it difficult for an ISFJ man or ISFJ woman to leave a difficult relationship, or move on from a relationship that has ended. Dramatic change is something that is highly distasteful to an ISFJ. Anything that moves them into any sort of new territory can at least be treated with intense suspicion. In more extreme cases, these people can response to life changes with pronounced agitation and distress.
An ISFJ man is going to be someone who seems to be forever stuck in bad relationships. He is going to be someone who certainly understands they are in a bad relationship, but will not do anything to change that. This can be due to the fact that he fears the change inherent in ending a relationship, because he does not value his self-worth enough, or because he believes the other person is happier for the relationship continuing. In many cases, it can be all three of these things.
An ISFJ man might not have the assertiveness necessary for a truly healthy relationship, but this assertiveness will clearly be on display at their job. They will be someone others enjoy working with, and their organizational skills and memory potential will make them well-suited to a variety of challenging tasks.
Many ISFJ men seek out partners who seek out relationships that emphasize mutual giving and shared respect.
ISFJ women are known to be painfully shy. This is particularly true, when a woman who can be identified as an ISFJ encounters someone they see clearly as a potential romantic partner. Unfortunately, because ISFJ women struggle to maintain consistent self-care, it is not uncommon to see someone from this personality type in an abusive relationship. Perhaps even more tragic is the way in which many of these women will make excuses for why the relationship is abusive. They will internalize, assume the blame, and struggle to keep the relationship alive.
ISFJ women struggle with self-confidence, but their memory capacity, eye for organizational detail, and ability to commit to projects can make them immensely successful at work. They will be people who friends trust and value for their insight and kindness into their personal matters.
