ISTJ is one of the sixteen personality types as classified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI. ISTJ is an acronym for introversion, sensing, thinking and judgment.
I is for Introversion
As opposed to extraversion, introversion implies that a person is more prone to stay quiet and to himself or herself. A person would be reserved, will have very few close friends and would confide in only one or two persons. Such a person will not have and will not want to have a large social circle.
S is for Sensing
A person with ISTJ personality will be sensible or in other words, pragmatic. He or she will be drawn more by what is tangible or concrete than what is abstract or intangible.
T is for Thinking
The ‘T’ is thinking and that makes such a personality very objective. People with this personality will always give priority to facts, logic, rational or objective assessment. They would not focus on sentiments, emotions, personal preferences or biases.
J is for Judgment
This propels a person to be proactive and keen to plan their actions and routines. Such an attribute makes a person like predictability and the sense of being in control of situations.
Some of the most popular people with ISTJ personality type are George Washington, Benjamin Harrison, Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover, Angela Merkel, George H.W. Bush and Natalie Portman among others.
People with ISTJ personality are often direct and brutally honest. At times, this honesty can hurt people’s sentiments but the personality is such that these people cannot help but be honest and direct. They are mindful of their duties and responsibilities. They are very strong willed and would see things to their rational or expected end. They are very practical and have their head and feet firmly rooted in the ground. They are also very calm. They have the ability to enforce order and can also maintain such order. ISTJ personalities are usually multitalented as they cannot remain satiated with one skill or limited knowledge. They are sort of explorers of knowledge.
Owing to their practical and rational thinking, ISTP personalities can appear and actually be very stubborn, they can be insensitive at times and have the inclination to stick to the rules. They can get judgmental and that can work against them and others. These people also have the penchant to blame themselves for something that has gone wrong even if it was beyond their capability to control.
