ISTJs tend to be detail-orientated, which for this personality type means that facts are important. ISTJs are very thorough when it comes to their research when forming an opinion on anything. Once the facts are established, they stick to them like glue. There’s no arguing with facts, right? That stubbornness to the facts can also be problematic for the ISTJ if there are errors within the facts. Nobody is perfect, but the ISTJ often thinks they are.
Here are some more of the ISTJ strengths and weaknesses to consider.
The Strengths of the ISTJ
1. Honest to a fault.
You’ll always know where you stand with the ISTJ. There’s no mental games, emotional manipulation, or lying involved. This personality type gets straight to the point.
2. Incredibly responsible.
Not many people today could still operate a business on a handshake and a promise, but the ISTJ could do it. Their word is their bond and they always fulfill their responsibilities as promised.
3. Calm under fire.
ISTJs rarely have a temper that gets lost – in public, that is. Behind closed doors when they’re all alone, they might beat themselves up over a mistake. When it comes to a crisis situation, however, this personality type stays strong under fire, remaining calm even when others do not.
The Weaknesses of the ISTJ
1. An appearance of insensitivity.
ISTJs stick to their guns and have high standards for themselves that they pass along to others. They’re by the book and demand compliance as leaders. They don’t really care about why someone winds up late for work. They just care that they are late for work and that it shouldn’t happen again.
2. It is easy to judge.
The ISTJ bases their opinions off of the facts that they have researched extensively on their own. They don’t respect people who disagree with them because this is used as evidence that the same amount of research hasn’t been done. People who remain ignorant by choice are the biggest turnoff for the ISTJ.
3. They blame themselves.
When failure happens, the ISTJ takes all the responsibility. They’ll load themselves up with guilt so that no one else has to bear the responsibility.
Understanding the ISTJ strengths and weaknesses helps everyone be able to effectively communicate with each other. Use this information for your next interaction with this personality type and you’ll have a conversation that is much more meaningful.
